What Are the Benefits of Becoming a Yoga Teacher?

If you love yoga as much as I do, you must have considered turning this valuable lifestyle and art of living peacefully into a career. Becoming a yoga teacher has been on my mind for a long time before I actually committed. It took some time to manifest my dream as it felt scary and overwhelming at first. Now, looking back, I understand that it had to be like this so I could jump over my personal barriers and breakthrough something that didn’t suit my nature.   1. You can Help Others and Yourself at the Same Time

When you teach yoga, you help your students through the asanas, breathing and relaxations. They will feel more relaxed and more at peace with themselves after the class. When they join you over a longer period of time, they will even notice long-term health benefits that a continuous yoga practice brings along eg. better sleep at night, better posture, less back pain and so on. Helping and guiding others gives you a lot of joy and happiness. At the same time, you will also self-practise yoga and implement all the benefits to yourself.

  1. You Live Much Healthier and Happier

Compare a 8-hour office job with hardly any movement at all to a job that involves asana practice, dynamic or smooth movements, breathing techniques and relaxations. Yes, you will immediately understand which one may be better for your health both physically and mentally. Working as a yoga teacher allows you to feel and be healthier, reduce tensions and stress to a minimum and schedule your work/life-balance according to your needs. I believe that the human body and mind are not made for all-day-long sitting and thinking kind of jobs. We need physical movement and if we don’t get enough of it, our body becomes stiff and painful.  So, teaching yoga does make a huge difference in your well-being and level of happiness.

  1. There is A Purpose that Gives You Direction and Meaning

Living a life without meaning, without purpose can be very depressing and negative. If just earning money is the goal of your job that takes away 90% of your life, you may ask yourself why am I doing this? When I had my old job, I was in a rat-race, always stressed about my job, earning well but also spending it for my rent and materialism. There was no satisfaction in my status or reputation that I had apparently. Since teaching yoga, my life took a 180 degree turn and I feel full of purpose and meaning. Having the goal to help others achieve peace and well-being gives me so much. When a class is over and my students glow, I feel so blissful and grateful. I shifted the idea of working for myself only to working for humanity and making this world a little better by giving the individual some yogic tools.

  1. You Feel More Grounded and Connected with Yourself and Others

Another true benefit is that you will feel much more grounded and connected. Not only with yourself, but other people as well. Since practising and teaching yoga, I have much stronger relationships as I became more understanding, compassionate and non-judgmental. I finally let go of comparing myself with others and chasing the never-reachable dream of being perfect, but simply being me.
